As part of the National Geographic Museum’s new exhibition “FOOD: Our Global Kitchen”, National Geographic will serve as the official D.C. host of the fourth annual Food Day. The Society will hold a Harvest Festival on Oct. 25, which will feature over 25 local and national organizations committed to tackling food issues ranging from nutrition to food waste. Attendees will be treated to chef demos, tastings, fun food-themed games and live entertainment from Super Sprowtz, a popular group that uses entertainment and puppetry to educate kids about healthy eating habits. Food Network star and Washington Post columnist Ellie Krieger will be part of the exciting lineup, demonstrating healthy salad recipes on the patio from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For a full list of Harvest Festival participants, visit: http://events.nationalgeographic.com/events/special-events/2014/10/25/harvest-festival/

Food Day was started by the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest and other food leaders in 2011 and has grown to over 5,000 events nationwide. Food Day inspires Americans to change their diets and our food policies.

The National Geographic Museum will be open during the festival, and every day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $11 for adults; $9 for National Geographic members, military, students, seniors and groups of 25 or more; $7 for children 5-12. In addition to “FOOD: Our Global Kitchen”, “Spinosaurus: Lost Giant of the Cretaceous” is open in the 17th Street gallery. In the M Street gallery, “Mars Up Close” is on display, and admission to that gallery space is free.
