Educational Requirements

Pursuing an Undergraduate or Masters degree in Communications, Marketing or Business. Ability to work independently and multi-task.

Personal Requirements
Strong Writing Skills a Must. Excellent communication and presentation skills (visual, written, and oral). Goal-oriented, self-starting, high performing individual. Added bonus if intern is familiar with DC, Fairfax, Arlington, or Alexandria, and has a passion for small business and community development. Can commute, work from our office, or in the field.

SocialIn is an Online Magazine featuring news, music, entertainment, events and announcements in Northern Virginia and the Metro DCArea. Currently experiencing over 200,000 “hits” per month, and over 60,000 online connections over Twitter and Facebook. SocialIn is unique in that it is a hyrbrid of modern cutting edge Social Media driven journalism, focusing on current events and issues facing the Metro DC Region, with plans to grow into the top 25 Regions in the United States.

The Successful Intern will be able to feature a byline at the end of each article, hyperlinks to their website or blog, and enjoy a body of work overseen by a professional working Editor, and Social Media Manager.

Social Media Internship

As a major force in Northern Va, Metro DC and Maryland, SocialIn has an Internship available for a Social Media Specialist.

Social In utilises Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and LinkedIn to keep and maintain it’s wide audience throughout the Metro DC, Virginia and Maryland Region.  The Engagement Specialist will build a body of work focused around Event Planning, contacting new connections, reaching out to Causes, and promoting the SocialIn brand over a wide range of platforms.  Training of the Social Media Engagement Intern will be ongoing, intense, and hands on, while giving the Specialist freedom to work offsite, and at various hours which will not conflict with class or curriculum.

Responsibilities
Use online tools like Facebook, You Tube, Flickr, and blogs to promote and publicize priority Social In Campaigns, Events, Causes, and Articles. Recruit and engage online and on-the-ground supporters throughout the Region.

Hours
10 to 15 hours a week (training each week in the office to keep up Social Media Skills)
Mostly offsite

Qualifications
Familiarity with local blogs, online social networks such as Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and other “web 2.0” tools. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Strong online research skills. Intern will occasionally play a roll in membership management, promotion and website updates.

Educational Requirements
Degree or major of junior/senior standing in Online Journalism, Communications, Marketing or Business.

Personal Requirements
Intern must have the ability to work independently and multi-task. SocialIn is looking for someone with strong writing skills that is detailed oriented. Added bonus if intern is familiar with DC and has a passion for small, independent business.
