Power Weekend

“Power Weekend” featuring 4 powerful contemporary performers in 3 stunning performances in just 1 weekend.  “Cello goddess” Maya Beiser and the vibrant pianist Michael Harrison make their Atlas debut and celebrated performer and arts activist Marc Bamuthi Joseph returns with red, black & GREEN: a blues (rbGb).  Grammy-winning jazz vocalist Luciana Souza and guitarist Romero Lubambo present a dynamic evening of musical styles.

Cellist defying tradition for bold exploration of sound
Virtuoso cellist Maya Beiser and the brilliant composer and pianist Michael Harrison will perform selections from their duo album, Time Loops.  The founding cellist of the Bang on a Can All-Stars has been called “the hot, young, cello-diva of the avant-garde” by The Washington Post. Harrison’s exhilarating and beautiful compositions draw on music from ancient Greece and the Renaissance, Indian ragas and minimalism. NPR named Beiser and Harrison’s duo album one of the “Top 10 Classical Albums of 2012.”
